Denomination and Sect List

This is a list (in fact, 3 lists) containing many of the various groups which claim to be Christians. My objective is to put down, very simply, which groups I believe to be genuinely Christian, which groups I'm not sure about, and which groups are not Christian. I am taking the Bible as my source for what is and what is not Christianity, and I will expect a Christian group to treat the Bible as authoritative and to follow at least it's major teachings (as in, those teachings which are most fundamental to the Christian faith, most notably salvation by grace).

This page contains my own opinions and is based on my own information - I do make mistakes! Clicking on the appropriate name will take you to an explanation of why I've come to the conclusion stated - worth checking, because in some cases my information is minimal and my judgement somewhat flaky as a result. The list isn't intended to be authoratative in itself - it's primarily intended as a warning, as in, if a group is listed as 'Not Christian' when you yourself think it is Christian, take time to look at the reasons and check if they're accurate.

One final caution - this list refers to the groups involved, the stated beliefs of the organisation. It is possible for a 'non-Christian' group to have Christian members, and pretty much every genuine Christian group has members who aren't the real thing. The Bible suggests that who does and doesn't turn out to have been genuine in the end may come as a shock to all concerned.
