Wuthering Heights - Emily Brontë

Review

A very curious book, and a difficult one to mark. Would have got a lower mark if I hadn't read it twice - it improves immensely on a second reading, perhaps because the reader knows what to expect. There is a happy ending of sorts, but not for the main characters. This novel isn't very gripping, and not very re-readable, yet it is truly original, quite fascinating, and thoroughly well-written - it just isn't really enjoyable, as such. It's score is increased by what I feel is it's true worth, but the casual reader should avoid this one - it rewards careful attention and proper study, but is morally exhausting and should probably be read along with something more uplifting.

Score = 7/10
